Get to Know the Types of SM6 Panels Schneider Electric

The Schneider Electric MV SM6 Panel is one of the important components in the medium-voltage electricity distribution system. Did you know that this panel has various types?

In the world of industry and infrastructure, there is a complex electricity distribution system. One of the important components in this electricity distribution system is the MV SM6 Panel, which will distribute electricity from the substation to various consumers.

In this article, we will explain the MV SM6 Panel from Schneider Electric along with its various panel types. Let's take a look!

What is the Schneider Electric MV SM6 Panel?

The Schneider Electric MV SM6 Panel is one type of Secondary Switchgear, which is equipment used for reliable secondary current distribution. This panel is a modular type of secondary switchgear with Air-Insulated technology. Generally, the MV SM6 Panel is used as MV Switchgear on the MV/LV Transformer Substation, which is intended for the public electricity distribution system, and the MV Distribution Substation for industrial needs.

This panel is also divided into two types, namely:

  • SM6-24 Panel is the SM6 MV Panel that can be used for needs up to 24 kV.
  • SM6-36 Panel is the SM6 MV Panel that can be used for needs up to 36 kV.

What are the Types of Schneider Electric SM6 MV Panels?

Basically, the Schneider Electric SM6 MV Panel includes modular parts. Therefore, the SM6 Panel is categorized into several types based on its function to meet specific needs in different applications. The following are the types of SM6 MV Panels:

1. Switching Panel Unit

a. Switching

A panel unit that has the function of performing ON/OFF switching. The Switching Panel also has several other subordinate types, namely:

  • IM Panel: Switch Unit.
  • IMC Panel: Switch Unit and is equipped with a Current Transformer (CT).
  • IMB Panel: Switch Unit with earthing disconnector and outgoing line to the left or right.
  • IMM Panel: Switch Unit and measurement unit with outgoing line to the left or right.

b. ATS (Automatic Transfer System)

Panel unit with the function of replacing the power source when a problem occurs. This replacement is usually done from the utility (such as PLN) to the generator automatically. The ATS panel also has other types below it, such as:

  • NSM-Cable Panel: ATS unit that uses a power supply cable for the main incoming line (N) and standby line.
  • NSM-Busbar Panel: There are two types of NSM-Busbar Panels, namely the ATS unit that uses a power supply cable for the main incoming line (N) on the left and a busbar for the standby line (S) on the right. Then, there is also an ATS unit that uses a busbar for the main incoming line (N) on the left and a power supply cable for the standby line (S) on the right.

2. Panel Unit for Protection

a. Fuse-Switch

A panel unit that provides protection against overcurrent with a fuse. There are several types of Fuse-Switch panels:

  • QM Panel: Combination Fuse-Switch Unit.
  • QMC Panel: Combination Fuse-Switch Unit that is equipped with a Current Transformer (CT).
  • QMB Panel: Unit that is a combination of fuse and switch with outgoing line to the left or right.
  • PM Panel: Fuse-switch Unit.

b. SF6 Circuit Breaker

A panel unit that can provide protection against overload or short circuit with an SF1 circuit breaker, namely an SF6-type MV circuit breaker. Several types of panels are available:

  • DM1-A panel: SF1 disconnectable circuit breaker unit with single-isolation.
  • DM1-D panel: SF1 disconnectable circuit breaker unit with single isolation and outgoing line to the left or right side.
  • DM1-M panel: SF1 disconnectable circuit breaker unit and measurement with single isolation and outgoing line to the left or right side.
  • DM1-W panel: SF1 withdrawable circuit breaker unit with single isolation.
  • DM1-S panel: SF1 disconnectable circuit breaker unit with single isolation with independent protection.
  • DM1-Z panel: SF1 withdrawable circuit breaker unit with single isolation and outgoing line to the right side.
  • DM2 panel: SF1 disconnectable circuit breaker unit with double isolation and outgoing line to the left or right side.

c. Vacuum Circuit Breaker

A panel unit that provides protection against overload and short circuit with an Evolis circuit breaker, namely a vacuum-type MV circuit breaker. There are several types of panels:

  • DMV-A panel: Evolis circuit breaker unit with single isolation.
  • DMV-D panel: Evolis circuit breaker unit with single isolation and outgoing line to the right.
  • DMVL-A panel: Evolis circuit breaker unit that can be disconnected with single isolation.
  • DMVL-D panel: Evolis circuit breaker unit (disconnectable circuit breaker) with single isolation and outgoing line kw on the right.

d. Vacuum Contactor/Direct Motor Starter

A panel unit that provides protection against overload and also short circuit for machine and motor needs. There are several types of panels:

  • CVM panel with Contactor Unit: Direct Motor Starter Unit with disconnectable contactor.
  • CVM panel with Fuse-Contactor Unit: Direct Motor Starter Unit with disconnectable contactor and fuse.

3. Unit for Metering

A panel unit that can be used to perform measurements. There are several types of panels:

  • CM Panel: Voltage transformer unit with TNS (earthed neutral) Earthing System for main measurement.
  • CM2 Panel: Voltage transformer unit with Isolated Neutral System (insulated neutral) for main measurement.
  • GBC-A Panel: Voltage and/or current measurement unit with outgoing line to the left or right.
  • GBC-B Panel: Voltage and/or current measurement unit.

4. Units for Other Functions

Panel units with additional functions. There are several types of panels:

  • GBM Panel: Connecting unit with outgoing line to the left or right.
  • GIM Panel: Intermediate bus unit.
  • GEM Panel: Extension unit for VM6 or SM6-24.
  • GUM Panel: Extension unit for Unifluorc or SM6-24 units.
  • GMM Panel: Extension unit for Modularc or SM6-36 units.
  • GAM Panel: Incoming cable connection unit with earthing.
  • GAM2 Panel: Incoming cable connection unit.
  • SM Panel: Disconnector unit.
  • TM Panel: MV/LV Transformer Unit for auxiliaries.
  • EMB Panel: Busbar earthing enclosure unit.

That is a complete explanation of the various types of Schneider Electric SM6 MV Panels. The various types of panels allow you to choose the solution that suits your electrical system needs.
